Dacia, maybe the the cheapest car brand in Europe (and the world), could be entitled to make electric cars in the foreseeable future, according to Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn.
With Tesla coming to Europe and Nissan selling their first EV – the Leaf – pretty well, the need for a budget electric vehicle is one of the natural steps an auto manufacturing giant like Nissan is expected to take.
“When demand is ready for this, we will be there,” Ghosn said. “Obviously we are helping with demand by lowering the cost of electric cars and by signing agreements with cities across the world for electric cars.
“As cities get charging stations more people are going to come, and of course the cost of the cars will come down too. So there is nothing that forbids an electric Dacia car in the future. The day there is demand, of course, we will be able to produce it.”
Imagine a future powered by Tesla’s super-charging stations (they said they’re open to collaborations) and Ghosn’s Dacias everywhere (they’re already everywhere in Europe, especially Romania and Germany). Looks nice, doesn’t it?
