Mitsubishi announces New Stage 2016 plans for more plug-in hybrid and pure electric vehicles

Mitsubishi has unveiled its blueprint for the future, and they’re calling it New Stage 2016. Mitsubishi says it will narrow down its vehicle offerings over the next 3 years and focus on vehicles with electrified powertrains.
Mitsubishi has set a target of 20% of their total vehicle production to be either pure electric vehicles, or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles like the Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in by 2020. New Stage 2016 starts on April 1, 2014 and ends March 31, 2017, but the information in the blueprint outlines Mitsubishi’s plan beyond 2017.
Mitsubishi hopes to develop next generation technology that offers more electric range at a lower cost, as well as wireless charging capabilities. The automaker will kill off some of their sedans and focus intensively on crossover vehicles and SUVs.
Mitsubishi specifies 4 electrified vehicles to look for in the future: a compact plug-in hybrid crossover, a large plug-in hybrid SUV, a Renault-Samsung-Mitsubishi global compact or midsize SUV, and a Mitsubishi-Nissan joint small / kei electric vehicle.
