Solar Energy Farm At Indianapolis International Airport

Indianapolis International Airport is now the home to a new solar energy farm.
The $40 million solar farm covers close to 75 acres of the airport. A ceremony was held next to the I-70 exit to the passenger terminal.
More than 44,000 solar panels cover the site. Combined the panels will produce more than 16 million kilowatt hours of electricity every year. To put it in perspective that is enough energy to power more than 1,800 average-sized American homes.
Officials say the new solar farm will help Indianapolis Power and Light reach its goal of having wind and solar sources make up 10 percent of its electricity by the year 2017.
