Volkwagen’s new all-electric e-up!

The new Volkswagen e-up! all electric city car is not on sale just yet but it has managed to pick up its first award
The Volkswagen e-up! is the new electric version of Volkswagen’s multi-award-winning city car. The e-up! has all the attributes that make its petrol-powered sibling such a success plus room for four adults and all their luggage. You can enjoy nippy handling and this great city car can achieve 0-62 mph in 12.4 seconds and can go on to a top speed of 81mph. The battery can be charged to 80% full in under thirty minutes at any standard 230-Volt socket, or via a DC fast-charging station.
The exterior of the new Volkswagen e-up features a distinctive curved layout of LED daytime running lights in the front bumper which look fabulous and in addition the front end, sills and underbody have been aerodynamically optimised. The other eye catching feature is the machine polished 15” alloy wheels plus the Volkswagen emblems with blue backgrounds and an e-up logo at the rear. The interior of the e-up features light-grey seat covers with blue top stitched seams. Special leather and chrome accents have been used to convey a puristic impression that matches the vehicle concept of a full-fledged urban electric car. It is the ideal car for daily use in the city, or commuters or as a second car and standard equipment in this car matches that of a much larger car.
New Volkswagen Golf Estate BlueMotion
The new e-up! was not the only Volkswagen model to receive an award, the super-frugal and super-practical new Golf Estate BlueMotion won the Small Family Estate award. Its hatchback sibling, the Golf BlueMotion, was commended in the Small Family Car category. The forthcoming new Golf Estate BlueMotion has a 1.6-litre diesel engine producing 110 PS, has a six-speed manual gearbox, and is expected to achieve a combined fuel consumption of just 85.6 mpg.
Simon Lynch, Volkswagen Product Marketing Manager said ‘we’re delighted to receive these awards, which recognise the breadth of Volkswagen’s product range. Whether customers want a zero-emissions electric vehicle or a capacious yet frugal family estate, our vehicles show that going green doesn’t come at the expense of comfort, safety or practicality.’
Both the new Volkswagen e-up! and the new Volkswagen Golf Estate BlueMotion goes on sale later this year with first deliveries in early 2014.
