Chevy Spark Out Torques Ferrari 458 Italia Video

Electric cars are the best proposition for the planet, and for saving money at the fuel tanks, but they still aren’t selling like hotcakes the way many feel they should be. Part of that is because the idea of trading in performance and an exciting driving experience just isn’t worth it. Many would rather suffer the gas prices and get to where they are going in a reasonable amount of time instead of feeling like they are puttering around to improve the planet and avoid paying ridiculous amounts to fill up.
The Chevy Spark is out to change all that though. The recent ad (seen below) is all about how much fun to drive this compact electric vehicle it is. Not only is it fun to drive, but it also has more torque than a Ferrari 458 Italia, about 400 to be precise. Torque doesn’t always equal high speeds though, but the Spark is faster than the Fiat 500e, Ford Focus electric and Nissan Leaf. It will go from 0 to 60 in 7.6 seconds. That certainly won’t win any races, but it will keep you up with some of the slower gas guzzling mobiles.

“We think the fun-to-drive element is an area for us to differentiate ourselves,” said Sam Basile, executive chief engineer for GM’s global minicars and emerging-market vehicles.
Whether people will buy into the idea that “A car powered by electricity, that moves like electricity” remains to be seen. If you love the planet and love saving money, and don’t mind driving a compact, then the Spark just might be the one that will offer you some pep in your step. Otherwise, it looks as if much of the market will be holding out for the tried and true gas guzzlers until every gas station has a charging dock and the cars resemble more than enclosed golf carts.
