Cadillac ELR Is ‘First’ Electric Car To Feature All-LED Exterior Lighting

When the Volt-based Cadillac ELR is launched this winter it will be the first electric vehicle introduced with all-LED exterior lighting.
The distinction of first electric vehicle is a necessary one as the redesigned 2014 Mercedes S-Class to be launched this fall is said to be the first with all-LED lighting among all cars.
In any case, the Cadillac is in exceptional company, and GM first showed the car so equipped at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this year.
“LED lights last much longer and use less energy than traditional halogen bulbs used in most vehicles,” said Martin Davis, exterior lead designer. “Beyond the beautiful design interpretation, using LED lights fits with the ELR’s environmentally friendly character.”
Up front, the ELR’s LED lights double as daytime running lights. The design is intended to present a sleek and dramatic appearance, says GM, of main projectors that extend from the ELR’s front fascia up into the fenders.
