Conference discusses the need to invest in and harness sources of solar and wind power available in Gulf states
Abu Dhabi: Experts and economists called on Arab states in general and the Gulf states in particular to be pioneers in the production and exportation of renewable energy as they are model leaders in oil and gas production at the international level.
They were taking part in the 21st conference held by the Faculty of Law at the UAE University under the title “Energy between law and economy” and under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, President of the UAE University, stressed that the sources of renewable energy including solar and wind are available in the Gulf states and that such investments require capital.
“In the Gulf states, renewable energy is a great investment due to the availability of wind and solar energy,” said the participants.
They stressed the importance of supporting scientific research in the field of renewable energy, particularly solar energy, in addition to providing financial and moral support to citizens who use solar energy at their residencies and houses. This in the light of rising oil prices and fears of oil sources running out as well as prospects for the depletion of uranium required for producing nuclear energy.
Cooperation
Professor Jasem Salim Ali Al Shamsi, Dean of the law faculty at the UAE University, called on the participants to boost cooperation and scientific exchange with developed countries in the areas of nuclear and renewable energy.
The participants stressed the need to support investment in renewable and nuclear power plants for peaceful, economic and medical purposes.
Al Shamsi said: “The UAE has embraced the green economy project and is working to achieve sustainable development to ensure that current welfare is not at the expense of future generations.”
