2014 Range Rover Sport Official Pace Car of 2013 Pikes Peak

After the announcement of the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander as the official safety vehicle of the 2013 Pikes Peak Hillclimb two weeks ago, Land Rover has just announced that the 2014 Range Rover Sport will be the official pace car of tomorrow’s event. Just a single photo of the official vehicle in Pikes Peak livery was released, but it’s essentially a stock 2014 Range Rover Sport Supercharged in the “Chile” orange/red exterior hue.
Tomorrow will be the 91st running of the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb. A legendary test of endurance, driver skill, and sheer nerve, with unprotected corners on the edge of drop-offs, the event brings competitors from all over the world in all sorts of vehicles. Among the 157 registered competitors this year, 70 of them are cars, and 87 of them are motorcycles. Some more recent additions to the event are electric vehicles, with Mitsubishi running a second-generation electric race car at the 2013 event.
The pace car announcement follows the 2014 Range Rover Sport’s record-breaking sub 13-minute hillclimb with racer Paul Dallenbach behind the wheel. The only reported changes to the vehicle over a stock 2014 Range Rover Sport were mandatory safety equipment such as a roll cage and five-point harness. You can watch a video documenting Dallenbach’s hillclimb below.
