Ugly or Exciting? Lexus LF-NX Crossover Concept

The Lexus LF-NX Crossover Concept has debuted at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, and is the subject of much chatter among those in the industry. For Lexus, this is a very good thing. The mini-crossover concept would—if produced—compete against the Mercedes-Benz GLA, BMW X1, Audi Q3, and the recently debuted Infiniti Q30.

With that kind of luxury competition, the Lexus LF-NX would have to at least get noticed. Sporting an exaggerated version of the new Lexus “face,” the LF-NX features spindle grille similar to the style found on the 2014 Lexus IS 350.

Lexus says the LF-NX is just an exploration of a smaller crossover, but with every automaker getting in on the small crossover market, it seems very likely we’ll see a shrunken RX 350 added to the line. Powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired to an electric motor, Lexus claims the hybrid would produce “SUV performance.” And while the barely-there side mirrors and laser-like LED headlights would be much larger, Lexus could keep a lot of the aggressive cut lines and exterior styling. Wide-wheel arches help give the crossover concept a prominent stance and presence. Inside, Lexus promises a state of the art media system with “touch-sensitive electrostatic switches, and a new touch pad Remote Touch Interface (RTI) design.” Blue accent lighting is meant to give a sophisticated feel.
